Zapier Alternatives: 6 Cheaper Options, Free and Open Source
Zapier bills every action step, so multi-step Zaps get expensive fast. Six alternatives, priced from their own pages, and which one fits your team.

The best Zapier alternatives in 2026 are n8n (cheapest at scale, self-hostable), Make (cheapest hosted no-code builder), Activepieces (open source, simple flat pricing), Pabbly Connect (lifetime plans, free internal steps), Power Automate (if you live in Microsoft 365) and Pipedream (for developers building integrations into their own product). Which one is cheaper than Zapier depends on one thing: how each tool counts a “unit” of work.
Run your own numbers in the n8n vs Make vs Zapier cost calculator.
Zapier charges one task per successful action step. A five-step Zap that runs 1,000 times can burn thousands of tasks. Tools that bill per run, or that don’t count internal steps, can cost a fraction of that for the same job.
All prices below were checked on each vendor’s own pricing page on 28-29 October 2026, in USD unless noted. Prices change often, so confirm before you buy.
Zapier alternatives compared (pricing as of October 2026)
| Tool | Free tier | Cheapest paid plan | What you pay for | Self-host? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zapier (baseline) | 100 tasks/mo, two-step Zaps | Professional from $19.99/mo yearly ($29.99 monthly), 750 tasks | Each successful action = 1 task; triggers, Filter, Formatter, Paths, Delay free | No |
| n8n | Community Edition free (self-hosted); Cloud trial of 1,000 executions, no card | Starter €20/mo yearly (about $22.27), 2,500 executions | One execution per full workflow run, any number of steps | Yes |
| Make | 1,000 credits/mo, 15-minute minimum interval | Core $12/mo yearly ($16 monthly), 10,000 credits | Most module actions = 1 credit; routers and error handlers free | No |
| Activepieces | 1,000 credits, unlimited flows, up to 5 users | Plus $20/mo flat, 10,000 credits, then $0.007/credit | One credit per run regardless of steps; AI steps 2, 10 or 20 credits | Yes |
| Pipedream | Free in development only | Startup $99/mo yearly ($150 monthly), 10,000 credits, then $0.012 | 1 credit per 30 seconds of compute per action or tool call | No |
| Power Automate | 30-day free trial | Premium $15/user/mo yearly | Per user (or per bot for unattended RPA) | No |
| Pabbly Connect | 100 tasks/mo, 2 workflows of up to 2 steps | Standard $19/mo monthly ($16/mo yearly), 10,000 tasks | Only external action steps count; triggers and internal tools free | No |
Euro conversions use the ECB reference rate of $1.1133 per euro on 28 October 2026. In Canadian and Australian dollars, n8n Starter’s €20 is about C$31.28 or A$31.66.
The six alternatives, one by one
1. n8n: cheapest for multi-step workflows
n8n counts an execution as one full run of a workflow, however many nodes it has. On Cloud, Starter is €20 a month billed yearly for 2,500 executions with 5 concurrent runs, and Pro is €50 a month for 10,000 executions with up to 50 concurrent. Annual billing saves 17%. In the US view of the pricing page (checked 29 October 2026) the same plans show as $20 or $24 (Starter, annual or monthly) and $50 or $60 (Pro). Cloud is hosted in Frankfurt. Companies under 20 employees can apply for a start-up plan at 50% off Business.
The big draw is the free Community Edition, which you run on your own server with no execution cap. Note the licence: n8n’s docs list it under a “Sustainable use license”. It is source-available, not a standard open-source licence, so read it before reselling n8n as a service.
Best for: technical founders, agencies and anyone with long workflows or AI steps. If you want a worked example, our n8n lead generation workflow includes importable JSON and a cost-per-lead breakdown, and n8n self-hosted vs cloud cost covers the server side.
2. Make: the cheapest hosted visual builder
Make bills credits. Most module actions use one credit; Router and error-handler modules use none, and some AI features use more. The free plan gives 1,000 credits a month with a 15-minute minimum interval between runs. Core is $12 a month billed yearly ($16 monthly) for 10,000 credits, Pro is $21 yearly ($28 monthly) and Teams is $38 yearly ($51 monthly) at the same volume.
One catch: when credits run out, scenarios stop until you add more. Make queues incoming webhooks up to your queue limit, and you can buy extra credits in bundles of 1,000 or 10,000.
Best for: non-developers who want a visual canvas and more headroom than Zapier for the money.
3. Activepieces: open source with flat, simple plans
Activepieces counts one credit per run however many steps the flow has. The exception is AI: a step on a fast model costs 2 credits, a smart model 10 and a frontier model 20. On Plus and above you can bring your own AI keys, which drops every AI step to 1 credit and moves model costs to your provider bill.
Plans: Free ($0, 1,000 credits, up to 5 users, unlimited flows), Plus ($20 a month flat, 10,000 credits, then $0.007 per credit) and Team ($200 a month, 50,000 credits, 25 users, SSO). Every plan can run on Activepieces’ cloud or on-prem, and there is a free self-hosted Community Edition. Its cloud is in Frankfurt by default.
One inconsistency to know about: the plan table says Free credits reset daily, while the FAQ says you get 1,000 credits a month and wait until next month if you use them up. Assume the stricter reading until Activepieces clarifies.
Best for: teams that want an open-source option with a friendlier UI than n8n, and predictable flat pricing.
4. Pabbly Connect: lifetime plans and free internal steps
Pabbly counts only action steps on external apps as tasks. Triggers and internal tools (filters, routers, formatters, iterators, email parser, delays) are free. That alone can cut a Zapier task bill by a third or more on formatter-heavy Zaps.
Recurring plans: Free (100 tasks a month, up to 2 workflows of 2 steps), Standard ($19 monthly, $16 a month on yearly billing, 10,000 tasks) and Unlimited ($79 monthly, $69 yearly, unlimited tasks). Pabbly also sells one-time lifetime plans: Standard Lifetime at $349 for 3,000 tasks a month, Ultimate Lifetime at $799 for 10,000 tasks, and Ultimate Plus Lifetime at $1,298 for 20,000 tasks. It offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Lifetime deals carry vendor risk: you are betting the company keeps maintaining integrations for years. Treat the payback maths (below) as the upside case.
Best for: cost-sensitive small businesses with steady, predictable volume.
5. Microsoft Power Automate: for Microsoft 365 shops
Power Automate is priced per user or per bot, not per task. Premium is $15 per user per month billed yearly and includes cloud flows, attended desktop automation (RPA), premium and custom connectors, plus process mining. Unattended automation is Process at $150 per bot per month, or Hosted Process at $215 with a Microsoft-managed virtual machine. There is a 30-day free trial with standard connectors only.
Microsoft notes its listed prices are for marketing and may vary by country and currency, and flows run “within service limits”. Check the licensing guide for request limits before you move heavy workloads.
Best for: companies already on Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint and Dataverse, or anyone who needs desktop RPA.
6. Pipedream: a developer integration layer, not a Zap clone
Pipedream’s pricing page now describes it as “the integration layer for AI agents”: managed auth for 3,000+ APIs, 10,000+ prebuilt tools and triggers, and MCP servers you embed in your own app. Development is free with every feature; serving real users in production needs Startup at $99 a month billed yearly ($150 monthly), with 100 external users included (then $2 each) and 10,000 credits (then $0.012 each). A credit is 30 seconds of compute per action, tool call or proxy request.
Best for: developers adding integrations or agent tools to a product. Not for: a marketing team that wants to replace a few Zaps.
Worked example: one workflow, six price tags
Take a common Zap: a new form submission (trigger) is formatted (Formatter), added to a CRM, appended to Google Sheets and posted to Slack. It runs 1,000 times a month.
- Zapier: trigger and Formatter are free, so 3 tasks per run × 1,000 = 3,000 tasks. That is above the 2,000-task tier, so you need the 5,000-task Professional tier: $89 a month billed yearly.
- Make: roughly 5 modules each using a credit (trigger, formatting, three app actions) = 5 × 1,000 = 5,000 credits, inside Core’s 10,000: $12 a month yearly.
- n8n Cloud: 1 execution per run = 1,000 executions, inside Starter’s 2,500: €20, about $22.27 a month. Self-hosted: $0 software plus your server.
- Activepieces: 1 credit per run = 1,000 credits. That technically fits the Free plan’s 1,000; with no margin, Plus at $20 a month is the safe choice.
- Pabbly Connect: 3 external actions per run = 3,000 tasks, inside Standard’s 10,000: $16 a month yearly. Or Standard Lifetime: $349 once ÷ $16 a month = about 22 months to break even against yearly Standard.
- Power Automate: $15 a month for one Premium user (Premium includes premium and custom connectors), within Microsoft’s service limits.
Add an AI step and the order changes. Zapier counts AI steps at 1, 3 or 5 tasks, Activepieces at 2 to 20 credits (or 1 with your own keys), and n8n still counts one execution per run, with the model bill paid separately to your AI provider.
Who each Zapier alternative is for (and who should skip it)
| Tool | Choose it if you… | Skip it if you… |
|---|---|---|
| n8n | Run long or AI-heavy workflows, or want to self-host for free | Want zero technical upkeep and never want to see JSON or expressions |
| Make | Want a visual no-code builder at a lower price than Zapier | Need runs more often than every 15 minutes on the free plan, or hate credit maths |
| Activepieces | Want open source with flat, simple pricing and room for 5 free users | Need the deepest app catalogue or enterprise governance on a low plan |
| Pabbly Connect | Have steady volume and like the idea of paying once | Can’t accept the risk of a lifetime deal or need enterprise SSO and SLAs |
| Power Automate | Live in Microsoft 365 or need desktop RPA | Mostly use Google Workspace and non-Microsoft SaaS |
| Pipedream | Are a developer embedding integrations or agent tools in your product | Are a non-technical team replacing a few Zaps |
| Stay on Zapier | Value the largest app catalogue and easiest setup over price | Run high-volume, multi-step Zaps where tasks pile up |

Taxes for Canadian and Australian buyers
Sticker prices above exclude tax. If you buy from Canada, the CRA’s digital-economy GST/HST measures, in effect since 1 July 2021, can require foreign digital vendors to register and charge GST/HST. In Australia, the ATO says GST applies to imported digital services and software sold to Australian consumers. Whether tax shows up on your invoice depends on the vendor and on whether you buy as a GST-registered business. This is general information, not tax advice; confirm with your accountant.
How to switch from Zapier without breaking things
- Export your Zap list and sort by task usage. Move the most expensive Zaps first; that is where the savings are.
- Rebuild, don’t convert. There is no reliable universal converter. Rebuild each Zap and run both in parallel for a week.
- Check every app connector exists. Where it doesn’t, use the HTTP request or webhook step every tool on this list offers.
- Turn off the old Zap only after matching outputs. Compare a few days of results row by row.
