Google Workspace Pricing: Gemini Included, USD/CAD/AUD

Gemini is no longer a paid add-on. The real decision is the tier: Starter gets Gemini in Gmail and Vids, and Standard at $14 adds Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Meet and Chat.

Google Workspace costs $7, $14 or $22 per user per month (USD) on an annual plan for Business Starter, Standard and Plus, and Gemini AI is included in all three. There is no longer a separate Gemini add-on to buy for most teams: Google retired the old Gemini Business and Gemini Enterprise add-ons and folded the features into the plans. What changes from tier to tier is which apps get Gemini and how much of it you can use.

This guide covers prices in US, Canadian and Australian dollars, annual versus flexible billing, the Gemini features at each tier, and how Canadian GST/HST and Australian GST are added. All figures come from Google’s own pricing and help pages, checked 31 Oct 2026. Prices change, so confirm at checkout.

Google publishes official prices in local currencies, so no conversion is needed for Canada or Australia.

A few rules from the same pages that affect the bill:

  • Starter, Standard and Plus can be bought for up to 300 users. Enterprise has no minimum or maximum.
  • Storage is pooled: 30 GB per user on Starter, 2 TB on Standard and 5 TB on Plus.
  • Enterprise prices are not published. Google says they are available through its sales team and resellers.

Annual vs Flexible Plan: what you are trading

The pricing page advertises the annual plan as “Save 16%”. In yearly terms the gap is clear: Business Standard is $201.60 per user per year on the Flexible Plan against $168 on the annual plan, according to Google’s billing help page.

Flexible Plan Annual/Fixed-Term Plan
Commitment None 1 year or more
Billing Monthly, for the users you have that month Monthly or yearly, depending on region
Add users Any time Any time
Remove users Any time, next bill drops Only at renewal
Cancel early No penalty You pay the full remaining commitment
Switch To annual any time (annual upfront payment required) To flexible only during the trial or at renewal

The practical rule: if your team could shrink in the next 12 months (a contractor-heavy startup, a seasonal business, a founder still testing the idea), the Flexible Plan’s 20% premium buys you an exit. If headcount is stable, take the annual plan.

Is Gemini a paid add-on? No, not anymore

Google’s help center states that starting in January 2025 it began adding AI features to Business and Enterprise editions that were previously sold as Gemini add-ons. As part of that change, these add-ons are no longer available for purchase:

  • Gemini Business (now “Legacy”)
  • Gemini Enterprise (now “Legacy”)
  • AI Meetings and Messaging
  • AI Security

So if you searched “Google Workspace Gemini add-on pricing”, the answer is that the old add-on price no longer applies. The one AI add-on still listed on the pricing page is AI Expanded Access, which Google describes as “higher access to advanced AI capabilities”, such as more Workspace Studio automations, image and video generations and real-time speech translation. Google did not publish a price for it on the pages we checked, so we have left it out.

What Gemini you get on each plan

This is where the tiers really differ. The table summarizes Google’s Compare Business editions page (updated 30 Oct 2026).

Gemini feature Starter Standard Plus
Gemini in Gmail (side panel, Help me write, AI Overviews of threads) Yes Yes Yes
Gemini in Google Vids (AI avatars, voiceover, video clips) Yes Yes Yes
Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive No Yes Yes
Gemini in Meet (“Take notes for me”, speech translation) No Yes Yes
Gemini in Chat and Calendar (“Help me schedule”) No Yes Yes
Gemini app: Pro model Basic access, limits vary Up to 25 prompts per 4 hours Same as Standard
Gemini app: Thinking model Basic access, limits vary Up to 300 prompts per day Same as Standard
Gemini app context window 32,000 tokens 1 million tokens 1 million tokens
Deep Research reports 5 per month 20 per day 20 per day
Image generation (Nano Banana 2) Up to 20 per day Up to 100 per day Up to 100 per day
Video generation in Gemini app No Up to 3 per day Up to 3 per day
Gemini Notebook Standard access Higher-level access Higher-level access

Limits are Google’s published caps and Google notes some “may change frequently”. The pricing page summarizes the same split: Starter has Gemini in Gmail only, while Standard gets “Gemini AI assistant in Gmail, Docs, Meet, and more”.

Business Plus adds almost no extra AI over Standard (Meet watermarking is one of the few Gemini differences). You pay the extra $8 per user mainly for 5 TB of storage, Vault for retention and eDiscovery, Meet attendance tracking, Secure LDAP and advanced endpoint management.

Enterprise plans add security features on the pricing page such as data loss prevention, context-aware access and AI classification for Google Drive. Pricing is by quote.

Canada: GST/HST on Google Workspace

Google’s tax help page says that for Workspace you contract with Google LLC, and if you have a Canadian billing address Google “calculates and charges taxes based on your billing address” unless you claim an exemption by providing your tax ID. Google LLC is registered under the simplified GST/HST regime (section 211.11 of the Excise Tax Act) and the simplified QST regime. Source: Taxes in your region.

The rate depends on the province of your billing address. Current CRA rates:

Province GST/HST rate
Alberta, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon 5% GST
Ontario 13% HST
Nova Scotia 14% HST (since 1 Apr 2025)
New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, PEI 15% HST
British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Quebec 5% GST, plus provincial sales tax or QST where it applies

Source: CRA GST/HST rates by province. Google’s page lists PST for British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan and QST for Quebec among the taxes it may charge.

Australia: 10% GST

Google’s tax page says invoices issued by Google Australia Pty Limited include GST of 10% on the value of taxable services, and that this affects any Google account with an Australian business address. If you are GST-registered, the ATO’s GST guidance covers how to claim GST credits on business purchases through your BAS.

US billing addresses (including US LLCs)

If your company bills from a US address, which is common for Canadian and Australian founders running a US LLC or a US company, Google says the account “may be subject to state and local sales taxes” based on the billing address. Google charges any applicable state sales tax directly when you buy online; through a reseller, ask the reseller.

Worked example: a five-person team on Business Standard

Assume five users on Business Standard, before any promotion.

US team, annual plan: $14 x 5 users = $70 per month, or $70 x 12 = $840 a year before sales tax. On the Flexible Plan: $16.80 x 5 = $84 per month, $1,008 a year. The annual plan saves $168 a year, in exchange for not being able to drop seats until renewal.

Ontario team, annual plan: C$18.40 x 5 = C$92.00 per month. Add 13% HST: C$92.00 x 0.13 = C$11.96. Total C$103.96 per month, or C$1,247.52 a year, unless you give Google your GST/HST number and qualify for the exemption.

Australian team, annual plan: A$19.80 x 5 = A$99.00 per month. Add 10% GST: A$9.90. Total A$108.90 per month, or A$1,306.80 a year. A GST-registered business can generally claim the A$9.90 back as a GST credit.

Same team on Business Starter instead: $7 x 5 = $35 a month, half the cost. But nobody gets Gemini in Docs, Sheets or Meet notes, and Gemini app access drops to basic limits and a 32,000-token context window. If you would otherwise pay for a separate AI assistant, the extra $7 per user for Standard is usually the cheaper route.

The 50% promotion (13 Nov 2026 to 13 Feb 2027)

When we checked on 31 Oct 2026, Google’s pricing pages for Canada and Australia showed “Get up to 50% off your first 3 months of Google Workspace”, with price details running 13 Nov 2026 to 13 Feb 2027:

Plan Promo price (per user/month) From 13 Feb 2027
Business Starter $3.50 $7.00
Business Standard $7.00 $14.00
Business Plus $11.00 $22.00

Google’s footnotes say the offer is for new Google Workspace customers only, applies to the first 20 users added, the discount is applied at checkout and the final price is shown before you finish sign-up. The US pricing page we fetched on the same day did not show the banner, so availability may depend on your country. Treat it as a bonus, not a reason to pick a plan.

For the five-user Standard example, the promo would cut the first three months from $70 to $35 a month, a saving of $35 x 3 = $105.

Who should pick which plan

Plan Pick it if Who should NOT use it
Business Starter You mainly need custom-domain email, Drive and Meet, and AI in Gmail is enough Anyone who wants Gemini in Docs, Sheets or Meet notes, or needs meeting recordings
Business Standard Most small teams: full Gemini across apps, recordings, 2 TB storage, eSignature Teams with legal retention or eDiscovery needs (look at Plus)
Business Plus You need Vault, 5 TB storage, Secure LDAP or stronger device management Teams buying it for “more AI”: the Gemini features are almost the same as Standard
Enterprise You have more than 300 users or need DLP, data regions or context-aware access Small teams without a security or compliance requirement

Bottom line

For most small teams in the US, Canada or Australia, Business Standard on the annual plan is the sweet spot: $14, C$18.40 or A$19.80 per user per month before tax, with Gemini in every core app. Choose the Flexible Plan if your headcount might drop, and skip Business Plus unless you need Vault or the extra storage.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Google Workspace cost per user in 2026?
On the annual plan, Business Starter is $7, Business Standard $14 and Business Plus $22 per user per month in USD. The Flexible Plan (no commitment) is $8.40, $16.80 and $26.40. Enterprise pricing is only available from Google sales or a reseller.
Is Gemini included in Google Workspace or is it a paid add-on?
Included. Google's help center says it began adding Gemini features to Business and Enterprise editions in January 2025 and that the Gemini Business, Gemini Enterprise, AI Meetings and Messaging, and AI Security add-ons are no longer sold. An optional AI Expanded Access add-on raises usage limits.
Does Business Starter include Gemini in Docs and Sheets?
No. Google's edition comparison shows Business Starter gets Gemini in Gmail and Google Vids and basic access to the Gemini app. Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Meet and Chat starts at Business Standard.
How much is Google Workspace in Canadian dollars?
Google lists Business Starter at C$9.20, Business Standard at C$18.40 and Business Plus at C$28.70 per user per month on the annual plan, or C$11.00, C$22 and C$34.40 on the Flexible Plan, before GST/HST.
How much is Google Workspace in Australian dollars?
Google lists Business Starter at A$9.90, Business Standard at A$19.80 and Business Plus at A$30.90 per user per month on the annual plan, or A$11.80, A$23.60 and A$37 on the Flexible Plan. Google Australia invoices add 10% GST.
Is the annual plan worth it over the Flexible Plan?
Only if your headcount is stable or growing. The annual plan is about 17% cheaper, but Google says you can only reduce licenses at renewal and you pay the rest of the contract if you cancel early. Teams that shrink or hire seasonally usually fit the Flexible Plan.
