Cursor Pricing Plans: $8 to $200, and Claude Now Costs Extra

Cursor's subscription no longer includes Claude or GPT usage. Premium at $30 is still the plan most developers need, and if Claude or GPT is all you want, their own $20 plans cost less.

Short answer: Cursor costs $0 (Free), $8 (Plus), $30 (Premium), $100 (Super) or $200 (Ultra) a month in US dollars, before tax. Premium is the plan most developers need: it adds cloud agents, Bugbot code review and access to Claude and GPT models, but those third-party models are billed on top at API list price. Paid yearly, Premium works out to $25 a month.

All USD prices below were checked on cursor.com/pricing and Cursor’s models and pricing docs on 28 October 2026. Canadian and Australian dollar figures use the ExchangeRate-API rates published 29 October 2026: US$1 = C$1.4018 and US$1 = A$1.4198 (source). Your card issuer’s rate and any foreign transaction fee will differ.

What changed: Cursor is now part of The X Subscription

If you last priced Cursor a year ago, the plan names and the model rules have both moved. Cursor is now sold as part of The X Subscription, one plan that covers Cursor, Grok and X, billed through the Grok dashboard (Cursor help). That has three practical consequences:

  1. The included pool covers Cursor’s own models only. That means Grok 4.7, 4.6 and 4.5 plus Composer 2.5. The pool refreshes weekly and is shared with the Grok apps, so heavy Grok chat use eats into your coding allowance.
  2. Claude, GPT and Gemini sit outside the pool. On Premium, Super and Ultra you can still pick them, but each request is charged at the model’s API list price from prepaid credit. On Plus you cannot use them at all, and there is no bring-your-own-key option (Cursor docs).
  3. Old plans are “legacy”. Pro, Pro+ and the old Ultra keep working for existing customers. Cursor’s help center says switching to The X Subscription is permanent, so run the numbers before you move.

Cursor pricing in USD (as of October 2026)

Checked 28 October 2026. Prices exclude tax and change often.

Plan Monthly (USD) Yearly (USD) What you get Who should NOT buy it
Free $0 $0 Limited agent use to try the editor Anyone shipping daily
Plus $8 $80 Cursor’s own models (Grok, Composer 2.5) only Anyone who needs Claude or GPT in the editor
Premium $30 $300 4x Plus usage, cloud agents, Bugbot, third-party models at API price Developers who only want Claude or GPT
Super $100 $1,000 15x Plus usage Anyone not running agents most days
Ultra $200 $2,000 50x Plus usage Most solo founders
Teams $30 / $100 / $200 per seat n/a Premium, Super or Ultra usage per seat, central billing Teams of one

Teams also pay a Cursor Token Rate of $0.25 per million tokens on eligible third-party model usage. Individual plans do not (Cursor docs).

What third-party models cost inside Cursor

Because Claude and GPT are billed at list price, it helps to know the rates. Per million tokens, input / output, from Cursor’s docs:

Model Input Output Included in the pool?
Composer 2.5 (Cursor) $0.50 $2.50 Yes
Grok 4.7 $2 $6 Yes
Claude Sonnet 5.5 $2 $10 No, prepaid credit
Claude Opus 5.5 $4 $20 No, prepaid credit
GPT-5.6 Sol $4 $20 No, prepaid credit

Composer 2.5’s rates are a fraction of Opus’s, which is why the included pool goes much further if you stay on Cursor’s own models.

Cursor pricing in CAD and AUD

Converted at C$1.4018 and A$1.4198 per US dollar (29 October 2026). “With tax” assumes the tax is charged on the full amount. Ontario’s 13% HST is shown as the Canadian example; see the next section for other provinces.

Plan USD/mo CAD before tax CAD with 13% HST (ON) AUD before tax AUD with 10% GST
Plus $8 C$11.21 C$12.67 A$11.36 A$12.49
Premium $30 C$42.05 C$47.52 A$42.59 A$46.85
Super $100 C$140.18 C$158.40 A$141.98 A$156.18
Ultra $200 C$280.36 C$316.81 A$283.96 A$312.36

And on yearly billing:

Plan USD/yr CAD/yr with 13% HST AUD/yr with 10% GST
Plus $80 C$126.72 A$124.94
Premium $300 C$475.21 A$468.53
Super $1,000 C$1,584.03 A$1,561.78
Ultra $2,000 C$3,168.07 A$3,123.56

Cursor bills in US dollars, so these are estimates. The exact amount on your statement depends on the rate your bank uses on the day and any foreign transaction fee.

Sales tax: Canada GST/HST and Australia GST

Cursor’s pricing page says prices exclude applicable taxes (cursor.com/pricing). Here is how the two countries tax foreign digital services.

Canada

Since 1 July 2021, non-resident businesses selling digital products and services to Canadian consumers must register and charge GST/HST under the digital-economy measures. The Canada Revenue Agency lists the rates as (CRA cross-border digital services):

  • 5% GST in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Quebec, Saskatchewan and Yukon
  • 13% HST in Ontario
  • 14% HST in Nova Scotia (down from 15% on 1 April 2025)
  • 15% HST in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island

The rate follows your usual place of residence, which the seller works out from signals such as billing address and payment details. On Premium, that means C$44.16 a month in Alberta (5%), C$47.52 in Ontario (13%) and C$48.36 in New Brunswick (15%). Some provinces also have a separate provincial sales tax (Quebec’s is 9.975% per the CRA rate table); how those apply to foreign software is set by each province and is not covered here.

If your company is GST/HST-registered: CRA says a seller that obtains your GST/HST registration number is not required to charge GST/HST on the supply. Add your number in billing settings if the vendor allows it, and ask your accountant how to account for the purchase.

Australia

Since 1 July 2017, GST applies to imported services and digital products sold to Australian consumers, and the ATO lists “online sales of games, game codes, apps, software and software maintenance” as an example (ATO). The rate is 10%, which is 1/11th of a GST-inclusive price (ATO: how Australian GST works).

Sales to Australian GST-registered businesses that supply their ABN and a statement that they are registered are excluded from the overseas seller’s GST turnover. If you buy through your company, add your ABN at checkout where the vendor asks for it.

What we could not verify: whether Cursor’s billing entity is registered under Canada’s or Australia’s simplified regimes and adds tax today. Check the tax line on your first invoice, and budget for it either way.

This is general information, not tax or legal advice. Confirm with an accountant for your situation.

Worked example: a solo developer in Toronto vs Sydney

Both developers want Cursor Premium monthly and plan to spend $20 a month of prepaid credit on Claude Sonnet 5.5 inside Cursor. Both are consumers, not GST-registered.

Toronto (13% HST):

  • Plan + credit: $30 + $20 = $50
  • In CAD: $50 × 1.4018 = C$70.09
  • HST: C$70.09 × 0.13 = C$9.11
  • Total: about C$79.20 a month

Sydney (10% GST):

  • In AUD: $50 × 1.4198 = A$70.99
  • GST: A$70.99 × 0.10 = A$7.10
  • Total: about A$78.09 a month

Now compare the yearly plan. Twelve months of Premium monthly in Toronto is 12 × C$47.52 = C$570.24 with HST; the $300 yearly plan is C$475.21. That saves C$95.03 a year (US$60 before tax and conversion). In Sydney the same switch saves 12 × A$46.85 − A$468.53 = A$93.67.

One more comparison: if most of that $20 credit goes on Claude, Claude Pro at $20 a month (C$31.68 with Ontario HST) already includes Claude Code. For a Claude-first developer, that is cheaper than Premium plus credit.

Cheaper alternatives

GitHub Copilot Free $0 2,000 completions a month, limited chat and agent Heavy agent users
GitHub Copilot Pro $10 Unlimited completions, $15 of AI credits a month People who want one vendor’s top model all day
ChatGPT Plus (Codex) $20 Codex CLI, IDE extension and cloud Developers who want an AI-first editor

Is there a Cursor student discount?

Not a standing one. Cursor’s students page says anyone can start free and points students to promotions at on-campus and online events. No verified-student price appears on the pricing page as of 28 October 2026.

Who should buy which Cursor plan

  • Buy Plus ($8) if you want Cursor’s editor and are happy with Grok and Composer. It is the cheapest way to get an AI-first editor.
  • Buy Premium yearly ($300) if Cursor is your main editor and you want cloud agents, Bugbot and the option to call Claude or GPT for hard problems.
  • Buy Super or Ultra only after Premium’s weekly pool runs out more than once a week for a month.
  • Skip Cursor if what you really want is Claude or GPT. Paying Cursor plus API rates costs more than the model vendor’s own $20 plan.
  • Stay on a legacy plan if it still includes the third-party usage you rely on. Switching is one-way.
